NY Theatre Guide Reviews VANYA AND SONIA…

VANYA and SONIA and MASHA and SPIKE review by New York Theatre Guide →

VANYAandSONIAFor all the depth of emotion and thought explored in the works of Chekhov, there is one thing left untouched by the Russian master: a sexy man performing a reverse stripping act. Not only that, you also won’t find any mention of Snow White costumes, Maggie Smith impersonations, sexting, and certainly not Entourage 2. And yet Christopher Durang manages to draw seemingly polar opposite worlds together (with hilarious results) with his Chekhovian namesakes in the goofy comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. Sure the characters possess the persistent misery that is so recognizable in the works of Chekhov, but this cast of oddballs doesn’t take itself seriously enough for meditation to be a response option. Second Generation Theatre takes another step forward in their mission to present accessible theatre to the community with this contemporary riot directed by Doug Weyand. Click here to read on!
