Choreography APPRENTICESHIP
Choreography Apprentices are expected to:
- Collaborate with Mentor to set specific, choreography-related learning goals (e.g., telling the story through dance, teaching the dance, cleaning choreography/re-spacing etc.).
- Attend production meetings to help build professional relationships and understand the collaborative nature of theatrical work.
- Work with mentor to establish a schedule that supports the apprentice in achieving their minimum 50 required hours, with attention to build, fitting, and tech periods.
- Arrange 1–2 check-in meetings with Mentor (which can occur during build time, rehearsals, or fittings) to evaluate progress, discuss challenges, and adjust goals if necessary.
Choreography Apprenticeship hours (minimum 50) can include:
- One-on-one planning and design meetings with the Choreographer
- Production team meetings
- Attending rehearsals and taking choreography notes
- One-on-one meetings with actors who have missed rehearsal to teach them choreography
- Note-taking for choreographer during rehearsals
- Participation in designer runs, dress rehearsals and tech week to gain insight into the choreographer’s position during the tech process
