PROPS DESIGN APPRENTICESHIP

 

Props Design Apprentices are expected to:

  • Collaborate with Mentor to set specific, props-related learning goals (e.g.building a prop, sourcing and tracking props,building a prop LIST, researching the time period and location of the play)
  • Attend  production meetings to help  build professional relationships and understand the collaborative nature of theatrical work.
  • Establish a schedule that supports the apprentice in achieving their minimum 50 required hours, with attention to build/shopping, and tech periods.
  • Arrange 1–2 check-in meetings (which can occur during build time, rehearsals, or fittings) to evaluate progress, discuss challenges, and adjust goals if necessary.

Props Design Apprenticeship hours (minimum 50) can include:

  • One-on-one planning and design meetings with the Props Designer
  • Production team meetings
  • Timely assembly of do-fers for the cast
  • Shopping trips/ sourcing for props
  • Prop construction/alteration
  • Labeling, organizing, and prepping props for rehearsal and performance use
  • Setting up/organizing prop table in the rehearsal space and theatre
  • Participation in designer runs, dress rehearsals and tech week to gain insight into backstage needs/tracking
